This year saw tremendous growth, with a record number of campers who participated in the Club’s day camp programs. The Zable Foundation Branch welcomed more than 100 elementary school-aged youth each day to explore new interests through specialty clubs like Esports and SMART Girls and engage in a variety of activities like DIY projects, arts and crafts and, of course, friendly competitions in the Gamesroom.
For Club member Jose, summer was filled with new discoveries through hands-on STEM activities.
“In DIY STEM I learned how plants soak up water and how they grow if you put seeds in a wet paper towel,” he said. “That was very interesting to me because I didn't know that before!"
Field trips were also a highlight of the program, with several outings made possible through the Club’s partnerships with organizations like Thermo Fisher Scientific and Regal. Members recently visited the Thermo Fisher campus in Carlsbad for a “Science of You” event celebrating 10 years of national partnership between the global life sciences company and Boys & Girls Clubs of America, where they took part in hands-on activities about DNA with guidance from employee volunteers.
