The Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos isn't just a place that provides after school enrichment activities, where kids can play, attend summer camp, and have somewhere safe to go after school... It's so much more for thousands of kids and teens. Every day, with the help of friends, like you, we are giving our members the tools to become dreamers, creators, athletes, adventurers, scholars, leaders...anything they want to be!

Meet Julian , a senior at San Marcos High School. After staying late to finish extra schoolwork, you will find him running to the Club. Literally. Why does he run? Because he wants to make it in time to participate in the Leaders in Training (LIT) program with other teen members. LIT teaches our teens how to be effective leaders and mentors to younger members, organize fundraising events to attend teen conferences, volunteer in the community, and hold responsibilities at Club events. Outside of being an active leader and mentor at the Club, Julian enjoys participating in the flag football league and is able to explore technology in our Best Buy Teen Tech Center presented by Sony. With a desire to make an impact on his community, Julian hopes to become a teacher or a bio-engineer someday.
We rely on support from the community to keep our membership fees extremely low - $10 to $40 per year - so that all young people, like Julian, can have access to positive role models and mentors, and participate in programs that will help them become productive, responsible, and caring citizens.

Please consider making a gift this holiday season and help us continue providing life-changing opportunities for our kids & teens!

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 65 percent of fourth graders read at or below the basic level. Our Club is teaming up with former Club kid and Pro Football Hall of Famer Andre Reed to encourage our kids to "catch" a love of reading through the Read with Reed 83 program! During the 50-day challenge, students in 1st through 8th grade are encouraged to read for at least 30 minutes a day, tracking the number of books and pages they've tackled to earn prizes from the Touchdown Treasure Chest as they pass reading milestones. Our Club will host a special reading rally this month to recognize the top MVP readers who will win a ticket to an NFL game!

"I don't like coming to the Club, I love coming here," said Ashley, a senior at San Marcos High School. She has been a member at the Club's main branch for over seven years with her brother, Anthony. Now both members in the Teen Center, Ashley and her brother take advantage of team sports programs and activities, as they have a love for anything sports-related. She is also an active member in Club leadership programs like Keystone and Leaders in Training, where teens can gain invaluable work experience and community service hours.

Citing the friendly environment it offers, Ashley says the Club has helped her grow as a person and given her opportunities to bond with her brother, creating new memories every day as they get to participate in activities together. Out of all the staff in our Club family, Mr. Mando, our Director of Teen Services, is her favorite. Ashley says she has looked to him for guidance and support since she was in middle school and that he has helped her grow as a person, becoming stronger mentally and emotionally. "I am grateful that my mom enrolled us into the Boys & Girls Club because I feel like my life would have been a lot more negative if I never came."

The Teen Center and Best Buy Teen Tech Center presented by Sony, located in our main Jennifer Loscher Branch, are open to youth ages 13-18, Monday through Friday after school until 7 p.m. Striving to offer a place for every teen to go after school, we offer free transportation from San Marcos High School and Mission Hills High School included with an annual membership fee of just $10 for high school students. Teens have opportunities to participate in engaging, hands-on programs that emphasize our Club's three priority outcomes: Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles.

Now in his fifth year at the Club, Mr. Roger is the Site Director at our San Marcos Elementary School extension site. He says he feels fortunate to have a job that he loves and looks forward to coming to work every day. Citing fifth grade promotion as one of his favorite memories, Mr. Roger loves to see the development of his members each year. He and his staff aim to create a community feel at their site, emphasizing the importance of providing supportive relationships and making connections with the kids they serve. "It wasn't until [my first year as Site Director] that I finally realized that I have an impact on our members' lives, whether it's a small one or a significant one." To top off the community environment, Mr. Roger recognizes that the support that comes from parents and school administration plays an integral role in helping his Club site thrive.

Our site at San Marcos Elementary School is operated through a partnership with San Marcos Unified School District, as part of the After School Safety and Education (ASES) Program. Each day, members are provided with a variety of after school programs and activities, homework help, and a hot meal free of cost. The site prides itself in providing kids with a wide range of activities and specialty clubs, developed by members of the staff, including arts and crafts, sports, STEM-related programming, and more!

In the Teen Center, "teens have the power to shape our daily programming and become leaders," said Mr. Mando. As Director of Teen Services at our main branch, Mr. Mando enjoys being able to make an impact on teens, providing them with opportunities to learn about real life experiences in a fun, friendly environment. From being able to earn work experience hours in our Leaders In Training (L.I.T.) to tapping into their creative side in the Best Buy Teen Tech Center presented by Sony, our teens have a variety of opportunities to stay on the path to success. Having been with the Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos for five years, Mr. Mando has been able to watch members grow as they get their first jobs, graduate from high school, and break out of their shells on a daily basis, becoming more involved and more vocal around the Club. He is excited to watch the Teen Center grow even more, with attendance now averaging 60 teens per day.

With membership for high school students only $10 per year, our Club strives to ensure that all teens have chances to learn and grow at the Club. Learn more about the Teen Center at

On September 15, over 110 golfers hit the links at St. Mark Golf Club for the Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos 38th Annual Golf Classic, presented by Stone Brewing. The golf tournament is one of the Club’s larger fundraisers, supporting its annual operating budget. Attracting support from sponsors across the country, the tournament raised over $133,000 for the vital programs focused on providing all kids and teens with opportunities to succeed.

Golfers were treated to an assortment of food and beverages on the course, with opportunities to participate in contests and a raffle, ending the event with a live and silent auction during the awards banquet. Awards were presented to the top three teams in the tournament, who qualified to participate in the upcoming Randy Jones Invitational, along with Tournament Chair Steve Wagner, President & Co-Founder of Stone Brewing, in recognition of the company’s commitment to youth as a longtime supporter and the event’s title sponsor for the second consecutive year.
