Board Spotlight: Meet Warren Gorowitz

Warren Gorowitz has built his career on looking ahead — whether through his leadership in sustainability, his work as a professor or his dedication to strengthening communities. This forward-thinking mindset is exactly what he brings to the Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos (BGCSM), where investing in youth means building a brighter future for us all.

At BGCSM, everything we do centers on helping young people reach their full potential. That mission cannot come to life without dedicated board members who believe in the power of community — and Warren Gorowitz is one of them.

Five years ago, when Warren was new to San Marcos and had just stepped into his role at Hunter Industries as the Director of Sustainability and Social Impact, he was introduced to the Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos. With his passion for impact-driven efforts and giving back, it was a natural fit.

“I've served on a lot of industry boards, but never in the community,” he said. “I thought, well, this is just a great way for me to get a chance to give back and get to meet other leaders in the community.”

Since joining the Board of Directors in 2020, Warren has become a passionate advocate for the Club’s mission — not just as a representative of one of our longstanding corporate partners, but as someone personally moved by the stories, strength and potential of the youth we serve. “There’s a perception that we’re just an afterschool program,” he said. “But it’s so much more than that.”

That realization has only grown stronger through the moments he’s witnessed firsthand —  from hearing Club members share their stories during board meetings to watching youth light up as they network for the first time at events like Career Connections.

“Warren shows up for youth and the Club in such tangible and meaningful ways” said Christine Vaughan, BGCSM President & CEO. "He constantly brings creative ideas to the table as we aim to elevate the experiences and opportunities our youth have access to at the Club.”

His commitment to building a brighter future extends into his role at Hunter Industries. Under Warren’s leadership, the company has rebranded its corporate social responsibility efforts to focus on sustainability and social impact.

“I've really worked hard to deepen the relationships that we have with the nonprofit partners that we that we support,” Warren said, explaining the company’s intentional shift away from transactional giving and toward a model rooted in genuine connection, collaboration and a clear understanding of each organization’s impact.

That approach has been especially evident in how Hunter supports the Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos, particularly at one of his personal favorites, the Flapjacks for Backpacks Pancake Breakfast & Back-to-School Fair. For the third consecutive year, the company has stepped up in a big way — not only as the top sponsor, but also by rallying more than 30 employees to volunteer at the event’s backpack and school supply distribution.

Hunter has also reimagined its employee giving and volunteer program to make social impact more accessible. Employees now receive $20 per hour in volunteer rewards for time they log volunteering outside of work, which they can donate to a nonprofit of their choice. The company also runs a Season of Giving campaign each year and, in the past, has placed $100 in every employee’s giving account to support a nonprofit that matters to them.

"We encourage people to get involved in ways that are meaningful for them — whether that's joining a committee or just volunteering at one of the events that we do,” he said. “Not everybody in the workforce has the ability to give money, but if they're giving their time, they're doing something for the community.”

Warren’s leadership reminds us that true impact happens when passion meets purpose. Whether he’s championing corporate support, mentoring the next generation or lending a hand at Club events, Warren shows up — not just as a board member, but as a believer in what’s possible when we invest in youth.

At the Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos, we’re grateful for his vision, his heart and his unwavering commitment to building Great Futures at the Club and beyond.
