Health & Life Skills

Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos aims to promote health and wellness for all members, providing education and opportunities to development of healthy habits. Programs in this core area develop young people's capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals, and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.

The Wellness Program offers targeted social and emotional wellness support ot youth members through individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, case management, and family connection to community resources. Operating under the direction of a full-time Director of Member Impact, who holds a Master of Social Work degree, the program integrates modalities that support youth in developing positive coping skills, self-esteem, goal-setting, responsible decision-making, and positive relationships with peers and adults.

INSPIRE Girls Mentoring Program was founded in 2018 with the goal of enhancing self-esteem, positive relationships, and healthy communication skills for girls in 3rd-5th grade at our Jennifer Loscher Branch.

SMART Girls (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) is a health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program for girls ages 8-17. The program is designed to encourage healthy attitudes and lifestyles that enable adolescent/teengirls to develop to their full potential.

Passport to Manhood is a program for male youth members, ages 11-14, that concentrates on specific aspects of manhood through highly interactive activities. Each youth member participant is issued his own "passport" to underscore his personal journey of maturation and growth.
